We have season tickets to the UI Vandals. I love the Vandals, went there for school, but they have not been good. They have competed well with everyone they played this year, but they somehow find a way to lose. The first pass of the game yesterday was returned for a TD (UI-La Tech). The Vandals took the lead in the 3rd qtr, but gave up a TD in the 4th to go behind 16-22. While holding the Bulldogs to a very long field goal attempt, on 4th and short they gave up a first down by having 12 men on the field. It wasn't even a 12 men ticky-tack (player not off the field yet) call -- they actually had an extra D-lineman lined up ready to play. I guess that is a great way to block a kick. That was pretty dissappointing.

We play BSU on the 17th in Boise. I don't understand the appeal of the blue field, other than an assistance in an optical illusion. With their uniforms being the same color as the field, very efficient QBs have problems playing there. At least we don't have the problem of having a very efficient QB. Enderle was 16/48 yesterday.

Pink's Little Bit 'o Heaven

Pink's Little Bit 'o Heaven, originally uploaded by DPOB.

Sometimes it is the little things. A while ago, I was watching "Hotdog Havens" on the travel channel, and they featured "Pink's" in Hollywood. It (supposedly) was a favorite among celebrities, as it was convenient to the studios, and cheap for struggling actors. Most continued to go there after they "made it" because (as you can see) they have some pretty tasty food! I guess, Bruce Willis proposed to Demi Moore there.

On the left is the "Martha Stewart" which has sauerkraut, sour cream, tomatoes and bacon. The one on the right is a bacon-chili dog, stretched (10 inch dog instead of 8) with sour cream. Most everything I saw was close to perfection. Probably the most amazing aspect was that the hot dogs were "to go" and were wrapped in paper and foil. They were surprisingly easy to eat without making a big mess. I was in such a euphoric state that I forgot to order any side dish, (fries, rings or tots) so I had to eat again soon after.

If only they offered a deep fried version.....

Tailgate

Tailgate, originally uploaded by DPOB.

It was recently pointed out that there was no football, and that television was a big part of my life (I can't respond to comments on my phone, I have to create another post). Response? It is a well known fact that more than half the content on network tv is directed at solely me. My programming of choice, however, is football (and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

I watched my first game of the year, and most of the watching was pausing on crowd shots to see if I could find Chris, Ray, Nikki, Heatha & Rob (Pendergrast), who went to the game in newly named Bill Walsh Stadium. Rob, Nikki & Chris are 49er fans, while Ray (and myself) are Denver fans. Heatha lives in SF, so we can assume her allegiance lies there. I have seen her in a 49er jersey, however it was Shane's, one of her exes. She grew up near Seattle, so she may have a little hawk influence as well. She did go to WSU during Ryan Leaf's tenure, so she may not like FB at all.... This is a picture of their tailgte....

We Need More Cowbell

Weeding

100_0368, originally uploaded by DPOB.

I would like to thank my neice, Julia, for the excellent job helping me to weed the area by my storage shed. I don't have any pictures from the baptism, yet, because I haven't figured out how to get video from our camera to our pc. I'm pretty sure I know how, I do not believe I have the proper cables, however. My dad ran the camera during the show, and I am assured that he took some stills as well with the video camera (DV).

This is a picture taken right after, still wearing her baptism dress.

It's kind of funny, both my wife and I were raised Catholic. While she went to a Catholic elementary and JR High, and I only attended CCD every Sunday after church, you would think at least one of us would know what was going on. Other than quoting the Godfather several hundred times to Dan Rutledge (the Godfather), I really had no idea of what baptism was. Luckily enough, the Catholic Church provides a refresher class to remember all the stuff we didn't pay attention to during catechism.

Not that I didn't pay attention, or that Christina and I were not good students, it's just that our education occurred slightly after Vatican II, and I don't think our instructors knew the effects of the changes.

Before Vatican II, a baby had to be baptized to account for original sin, and prevent them from going to Limbo, if something were to happen to them. This is not the case any more. Baptism is one of the Sacraments, however not being baptized before you can sin (or even know what sin is) could not prevent you from going to Heaven. The whole Limbo thing was most likely created by the church to instill a fear into new parents, and to bring them back to the church sooner, rather than later. Vatican II recognized that this was just a ploy to get children baptized quickly and wasn't really serving the proper purpose, i.e. the Sacrament of Baptism, it was just freaking new parents out.

Also, an interesting note is that it is not a baptism into the Catholic religion; it is the Sacrament of Baptism into a Christian religion. The child is not actually a Catholic until they confirm their Catholic beliefs themselves (usually done around age 16 or so) through the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Both Godparents do not need to be Catholic. In fact Dan is not. Dan's lovely wife, Nikki, is, however Dan is not. Sierra's Godmother, Alicia (Christina's sister) is Catholic, however.

It is also a common misconception that Godparents are to raise the children Catholic if something happens to the parents. While this has the best intentions, courts do not recognize godparents as legal guardians, nor are there restrictions as to conditional guardianship such as, "they are the guardians as long as they raise our child Catholic..." The custody of a child, given circumstances that would require persons other than the parents to be the legal guardians, such as death, incarceration or incapacitation, should be addressed in your will, not in your baptism. This is not to say that your godparents cannot be named in your will, it only says that whoever is stated in your will will get custody of your children. In the absence of a will, the state will decide the guardians, not a baptism. Long story short -- make a will if you do not have one, just giving your child godparents does not provide security that they will be raised by who you desire, if something were to happen to you.

Beware of Dog

100_0338, originally uploaded by DPOB.

If only Sierra could read, she might not have been subjected to this vicious attack.

5/17/07

Sierra and Dad 2, originally uploaded by DPOB.

On the 17th of May, 2007, the priorities in our life changed. While I love the Vandals, and watching football -- this is different, the love is different.

Christina has always picked up after me and taken care of me in general, and I've always, in turn, cooked and made sure she had adequate transportation. I'm sure if I didn't cook Christina would eventually find some food of her own, and if she didn't pick up and wash my dirty clothes, I'm sure I would buy new ones. Sierra can't take care of herself -- we have to.
